The five-mile section of the Presumpscot River between Mallison Falls and Saccarappa Falls is unique and remarkable in the Greater Portland metropolitan area in being almost entirely undeveloped. It sits in the most populated region of the state but the lack of visible structures and road noise gives it a tranquility of wildness and makes it an ideal environment for outdoor recreation.
The Friends of the Presumpscot is advocating for the joint councils of Gorham, Westbrook and Windham to officially designate this five-mile section of the river as the Mallison-Saccarappa Scenic and Natural River Corridor.
