This Sunday we will walk along an intact section of the Cumberland & Oxford Canal where remnants of locks, turning basins & sluiceways can be seen. We will explore the foundations of a 19th century farmhouse & barn and explore what once were fields & woods long silenced by still waters, which are returning with the reopening of the Dam & re-filling of Dundee Pond beginning 9/12.
The walk is about 2.5 miles round trip, on mostly flat surfaces, but there is no obligation to walk the full distance as much can be seen with a short walk. Please wear sturdy shoes that can withstand some potentially muddy areas.
To park & meet, turn left off Dundee Rd @ the fork before the Dundee Dam Powerhouse (98 Dundee Rd, Gorham) near the Cummings Preserve trailhead. You may park on the road; just be sure the road is passable please. Additional parking can be found closer to the Powerhouse. Please note, you may continue to follow Hurricane Rd past the Detour sign to find us. That road closure is beyond our meeting spot.
