Following the Flow is a driving tour of the Presumpscot River Led by Michael Shaughnessy, President and a founding member of Friends of the Presumpscot river (FOPR). We will meet at the Conant Homestead and the Chief Polin Memorial (89 Conant Street Westbrook). From there we will travel by car to the Eel Weir Bypass near North Windham and from there we will visit various locations along the river that pertain to the river's history, ecology, natural beauty as well as learning of the environmental challenges, successes. and opportunities. We will discuss what is occurring on the river and the current efforts of the Friends of the Presumpscot River. Locations will be the Eel Weir Bypass, the C&O Canal, the covered bridge, Dundee Dam, Gambo Powder Mills, Saccarappa Falls and Fish Ladder, and a little visited location above Presumpscot Falls.
We can either car pool or drive separately. (However due to the restricted parking at some sites we will limit to 5 cars total. If there is the demand a second tour can be scheduled) We ask that those that are not fully vaccinated drive alone and wear a mask. There will be short walks at each site.
We suggest a 20.00 donation. Each participant will receive a map of the river and a FOPR membership. Waters will be provided. Please bring snacks and a lunch if desired, or lunch can be ordered from Profenno's and eaten on the stones overlooking Saccarappa Falls.
FOPR is an all volunteer (501c3) organization.
Because areas have limited parking we will need to restrict to 5 cars
